Proper Care and Warranty

My bows are made to be used and made to last, however the proper use and care must be taken in order to insure your bow withstands the test of time and general ware.

Before stringing your bow, first make sure there are no splinters or cracks before proceeding. If so, please contact me and we will discuss how best to proceed. Also if you hear any ticking or creaking in your bow please contact me.  When stringing your bow never extend your bow past the amount needed. This will cause unnecessary stress to your bow, and could result in it breaking. I typically use the step-through method or the push-pull method to string my bows. I recommend you watch this tutorial on how to properly perform this as it is difficult to simply explain.

Never leave your bow strung when not in use. Your bow can be strung and used for hours but once done it is recommended to immediately unstring  as this can cause negative ware and stress in your bow.

Be sure to store your bow off the ground either hung or laid down horizontally. Do not store leaned up against the wall as this can cause ware in the bottom limb resting on the ground. Never store your bow in an extremely hot place such as a car in the sun. Preferred storage is at room temperature.

Your bow is sealed with a natural mixture of olive oil and beeswax which both naturally coats the wood and seals it from rain and moisture. Every couple months of use, it is recommended to reapply 100% beeswax to your bow to keep this seal. This can be done by simply rubbing it on raw and then rubbing in with a rag. The friction will heat it up just enough to melt it into your bow.

Your bow string is also coated in beeswax to keep it from fraying. Every few weeks, or when your string is looking frayed, rub some beeswax down the string to keep it back together.

Most bows have a standard draw length of 28”. Make sure to not exceed this draw unless you’ve custom ordered a longer draw length.

Absolutely never dry fire a bow. This is drawing back a bow without an arrow and releasing it. When your bow is drawn it stores a lot of energy and without an arrow to transfer it to, your bow itself will absorb the energy which can often result in damaging or physically breaking your bow.

If you properly care for and store your bow, you are in for a long time of enjoyment and satisfaction. Wooden bows have been around for many years and are part of our history. If you treat it well, it will serve you well.

There is a 1 year warranty on custom bows against irreparable damages directly related to the craftsmanship of your bow or defect in bow while under proper care. Any misuse of your bow or improper care will void this warranty.
